OPERATION TEDDY BEAR

Operation Teddy Bear^®, established by The Volunteer Center in 1994, is centered on the spirit of volunteerism and the joy of giving. The program is designed to promote literacy, self-esteem and encourage kindness among students.

Operation Teddy Bear^® focuses on students of the most disadvantaged Title One elementary schools in our South Bay service area. These students are generally eligible for the free/reduced price meal program and are unable to afford the basic educational tools they need to succeed. These circumstances create special needs in the areas of education, literacy and self-esteem, which Operation Teddy Bear^® helps to address.

For most of these children, this special backpack is the only gift they will receive during the holiday season, and the first chance to own a book of their own.

In October, over 300 dedicated individuals volunteer their time to fill the backpacks by hand.

During November and December, more than 250 volunteers take time to visit the students in their classroom, read a story aloud and hand a backpack to each child.

Your donation will help purchase backpacks and educational items; ensuring that this highly successful program will continue to grow. Sponsor a backpack for one child, or an entire classroom full of students!

Volunteer Your Time
Operation Teddy Bear^® requires the time of hundreds of Volunteers to pack and deliver the backpacks. Individuals and/or groups are welcome.

Join "The Affinity Group"
Membership dues for this Support Group are $50 per year. The group holds teas instead of meetings, and organizes a major fundraiser each year.

Holiday Gifts
Give a special gift to family, friends or business associates this year. For each $50 donation to Operation Teddy Bear^®, The Volunteer Center will send an attractive donor card in your name to each of your designees.
