![]() Operation Teddy Bear®, established by The Volunteer Center in 1994, is centered on the spirit of volunteerism and the joy of giving. The program is designed to promote literacy, self-esteem and encourage kindness among students.
Operation Teddy Bear® focuses on students of the most disadvantaged Title One elementary schools in our South Bay service area. These students are generally eligible for the free/reduced price meal program and are unable to afford the basic educational tools they need to succeed. These circumstances create special needs in the areas of education, literacy and self-esteem, which Operation Teddy Bear® helps to address. For most of these children, this special backpack is the only gift they will receive during the holiday season, and the first chance to own a book of their own.
