Welcome to the Volunteer Center Youth Coalition's (VCYC) home page. Founded in September 1999, VCYC was designed to identify, empower, and mobilize youth from South Bay high schools by providing them with information and training to effectively promote positive social change in the community through meaningful volunteerism and active citizenship.

Members are expected to generate enthusiasm and support for service projects, help create, publicize, implement, and recruit fellow students to volunteer. VCYC members attend monthly meetings, as well as serve as Volunteer Center liaisons at their respective schools and role models to their peers by actively participating in community service projects.

By becoming Coalition members, you are given a competitive edge when applying for college or scholarships or employment later on in life. You will also meet and work with students from different schools in the South Bay, learn and practice marketing and leadership skills, receive special training from guest speakers, and become knowledgeable in the needs of your community as well as how to address them.

Members are selected by their schools and begin their term in June. A minimum of four representatives are expected per school. There is a $25 membership fee per representative. Fees pay for training supplies, meals, a T-shirt, and the option to enroll in the Volunteer Center Summer Service Learning Program at a discounted rate. Schools are strongly encouraged to cover the membership fee for their Coalition members as they bring back volunteer opportunities for the entire student body. Students are responsible for contacting their school ASB or principal for financing.
